M.E.R.L. Team – Coordinator PDG Terry Uniacke

The M.E.R.L. Chairmen together with the Region Chairmen form part of the District Development Group and work in close co-operation with the District Governor, 1st Vice District Governor (Group Co-ordinator) 2nd Vice District Governor, and the Zone Chairmen.

At the same time, each member of the M.E.R.L. Team has his/her own specific area of responsibility and it is expected this will be his/her primary focus.

While the M.E.R.L. Chairmen are an integral part of the Development Group, they also function as a separate team, providing mutual support and assistance in carrying out their roles. Team Members work closely together, to achieve success in Membership Growth and Membership Development.

As required by the Group Coordinator, Team Members may also advise and assist the Region and/or Zone Chairmen in their work with Clubs. Alternatively, the M.E.R.L. Team may request the assistance of the Region and/or Zone Chairmen.


Membership – Wayne Oakes

AIMS:
  • To increase Club awareness of the Club Care Programme and its applications.
  • To increase Membership throughout the District by providing encouragement and assistance to Clubs in the recruitment of new members and in the retention of existing members.
The Membership Chairmen is at all times available to visit Club, Zone and Region Meetings to talk directly to club members, provide them with advice and to encourage them to get new members into their clubs.

The Chairman is also available to assist Region and Zone Chairmen in regard to specific membership problems in Clubs.

A further role of the Chairman is, in conjunction with other M.E.R.L. team members, at attend the Incoming Club Officers Training Days as provided by District prior to Club officers taking up their role in the upcoming Lions year.

Extension – Lou Scholten

AIM:
  • To increase membership throughout the District by assisting in the formation of new Clubs and pursuing viable extension possibilities.
The Extension Chairmen is at all times available to visit Club, Zone and Region Meetings to talk directly to club members, provide them with advice and encouragement in relation to forming new Clubs or Club Branches.

The Chairman is charged with compiling lists of statistical data showing localities where there are numbers of people, both male and female, within various age groups and where there is not currently a Club or Club Branch.

When visiting Clubs with the intention of assisting for a new Club, the Chairmen always ensures that the relevant Region and Zone Chairmen are kept fully informed as to what is happening in their respective Regions and Zones.

A further role of the Chairman is, in conjunction with other M.E.R.L. team members, at attend the Incoming Club Officers Training Days as provided by District prior to Club officers taking up their role in the upcoming Lions year.

Retention – Valda Pritchard

AIMS:
  • To retain membership within all clubs throughout the District by assisting and pursuing areas of dispute.
  • To hold forums during the year with all V2 Clubs covering areas of concern.
The Retention Chairmen is at all times available to visit Club, Zone and Region Meetings to talk directly to club members, provide them with advice and to encourage all members to treat each other with dignity and respect.

When visiting Clubs the Chairmen always ensures that the relevant Region and Zone Chairmen are kept fully informed as to what is happening in their respective Regions and Zones.

A further role of the Chairman is, in conjunction with other M.E.R.L. team members, at attend the Incoming Club Officers Training Days as provided by District prior to Club officers taking up their role in the upcoming Lions year.

Leadership – PDG Terry Uniacke

AIMS:
  • To encourage all Lions to reach their full potential.
  • To assist Lions to become more knowledgeable about all aspects of Lionism.
  • To help Lions carry out their duties effectively and confidently.
  • To encourage Lions to take on Leadership roles at Club and District.
The Leadership Chairmen is at all times available to visit Club, Zone and Region Meetings to talk directly to club members, provide them with advice on things such as meeting procedure, rules of debate, goal setting etc., and to encourage all members to treat each other with dignity and respect.

The Leadership Chairman also liaises with Region/Zone Chairmen to identify leadership potential in Club members and encourage those identified to attend Leadership Courses as available.

The Chairman assists with the planning and implementation of Convention forums, workshops and/or seminars, being responsible for the planning of content, format and presentation of Leadership Sessions. He ensures involvement of all members of the Development Group in the planning process.

The leadership Chairman is also charged with organising and leading Incoming Club Officers Training days in March each year. In doing so the Chairman liaises with the District Governor Elect as to any special training requests.

In consultation with other members of the M.E.R.L. Team, the Chairman must also prepare, lead and offer other Training Sessions as deemed necessary.
