LEADERSHIP:

PDG Mary Harlow (Lion Malcolm)

(Altona)

Leadership is one of the four portfolios which make up 'MERL' - Membership, Extension, Retention and Leadership.

Who/What is Leader?
At the most basic level, a leader is someone who leads others. But what makes someone a leader? What can or have you done to become a leader in your life? A leader is a person who has not just vision, or drive but also a commitment to achieve life’s tasks which in this instance we shall call 'vision'. Let's look at what you as an individual have achieved in your 'leadership vision'.

You have been born and moulded to the person you are by your parents, you in turn may have done the same, you have worked in business, health, education or home. All these areas have had to have 'leadership & vision' in them for you to succeed.

The Leader's Vision
A leader has a vision. Leaders see problems needing to be fixed or a goal which needs to be achieved. Whatever it is they attack it with a single-minded determination.

The Drive To See It Through

It is not enough to just have a vision. Lots of people see things which should be done, things which should be fixed, great steps forward that could be taken. What makes leaders different is they act. They take the steps to achieve their vision – this is you the person then the Lion, lionesses and Leo plus Partners and Family. You do this every day working for yourself, your Family, Lions and your Communities.

Is it a passion for the idea, an inner sense of drive, or some sense of commitment? Whatever it is, it is the strength which lets leaders move their vision forward despite all the obstacles, despite all the people saying it cannot be done, it is too costly; we tried that before, or a dozen other excuses. The true leader perseveres and completes their tasks whether in family or personal life – we all have “visions” (dreams) and we are all leaders (Parents, Grandparents, Children) we all learn from each other.

On-line Courses – Lions International

http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/member-center/leadership-development/lions-learning-center.php

I now take the Liberty of asking each Member of every Club Lions, Lionesses & Leos which form District 201 V2 to please complete at least one online course Lions International provide prior to Convention.

Please when you participate in any online courses I would ask you to advise your Club Secretary of the course you are doing or have completed online as I would ask Club Secretaries to advise me in my capacity as your 'Leadership' District Chairman this year on your Cabinet.

These courses not only advance your knowledge in Lions but also within your own life – education of any sort improves a person. Never be afraid of change.

To work and action this portfolio, I need your participation, your knowledge, your vision to enable us all to improve our work for Lions and our Communities – Please let you and I grow together through knowledge and vision.

Club Presidents, please would you each consider having a Member of your Club participate in On-line training and ask your Secretary to confirm details to myself – Thank you.
