'Why More Clubs'
Why is it that we do not have our Clubs and their members looking for more areas to gain future growth of our organisation?
Standard comments are:
• We to busy working on the projects we have.
• It cost too much to start a new club.
• We do not have the time.
• Where do we start?
• If there is an area with a need what do we do.
• If we start a new club we will loose members from our club.
How do you find out what the answers are?
You need to ask and get assistance.
I am available any time anywhere, remember your Club was once a New Club and you needed to have a Sponsor to form your Club.
This is now your chance to help your association to grow and see new people become involved with your association.
Many clubs are aging and cannot maintain the pace that was the great attraction to those of us who joined years ago. Young people with young families need different operational options if they are to accept the chance to serve in a Lions Club.
There are many references available when looking on forming a New Club, and your MERL team can assist you, all you have to do is ASK.
At the Shadow Cabinet Meeting, back in April, I said that I would like to gain 10 New Clubs in our District by the end of our current Lion year July 2010. I believe that this can be achieved, because I believe that all our Region’s in our District are capable to look for one or two New Clubs in there area’s. I believe that we are well on the way to achieve that, and we need to keep going in this direction.
How to begin a new club.
The best way to find the people who should be asked to consider joining the new club is to ASK those who know the community well. The Mayor or CEO of the Council or Shire, Local Member of Parliament, religious and well-known community leaders are ideal. Make appointment to meet with them individually, explain 'That a Lion Club is to established in the area' then ask them if they would please 'Give you the names of six or seven local citizens who are most respected for what they have done for the community'.
At this stage it is not important to discover whether the nominees are members of other service club. It is more vital to gain the support of respected citizens.
After meeting the various leaders a comparison of the list gathered from each will invariable provide you with five or six people who are common to all lists. These are the people to act as you local membership or key committee.
Meet those people by appointment and arrange a meeting with the group at a time mutual convenience. It is rare to have a refusal to help if they are advised:
• That there is no commitment;
• They have been selected by their peers as the most respected local leaders;
• That we ask for their help in selecting people who would be widely respected;
• That we will only meet for 45minutes, at a time of mutual convenience.
I closing, if you like to discuss any thing on New Club Extension, please see me at the District Convention at Camperdown, or call me any time.
