Is your Club Guilty?
Club visitations have always been a very rewarding part of our Lions activities.
There is no doubt that as a result of these visits ideas and practices have been introduced to other clubs. In some instances sports or games night have been conducted on an annual basis.
This is a healthy and rewarding activity and should continue to be part of our Lions life.
Over the years some of our clubs have engaged in the friendly and mischievous practice of temporarily relieving the host club of minor items of regalia which was returned after very short period and the payment of a token 'fine'.
However in recent times the items taken have changed from minor to major and in some instances property that was given to a club forty or fifty years ago and is now in a somewhat fragile condition has been borrowed. Also items taken are not being returned promptly. This is upsetting to Lions who may have had a close association with that item over many years.
At a club changeover this year (not our club) the club was so concerned about items being taken that they tied down what regalia they could and it was packed away as soon as possible after the official part of the evening.
At a recent meeting of our club this matter was discussed at some length and while not wishing to discourage healthy interclub rivalry and the friendship and goodwill that results from club visitations it was felt that some thought be given before relieving a club of part of its regalia and if taken be returned as soon as possible.
As a result of our discussion our secretary was instructed to seek to have this letter published in our District Newsletter.
